Mr. Schutz's Palms (Les palmes de M. Schutz)" Marie Curie's (Isabelle Huppert) Costume

Description

Acquired by the production for use in the French film "The Palms of Mr. Schutz (Les palmes de M. Schutz)" (1997) for Isabelle Huppert's portrayal of Marie Curie. This is a four-piece ensemble consisting of a lab coat, shirt, skirt, and half-slip.

Lab Coat: Light blue lab coat with pearlescent white buttons running up center. Patch pockets at hip on each side. Sleeves are pleated at shoulders and have French cuffs with white pearlescent buttons. Back of coat has box pleats. Inscription in inseam of proper right sleeve near shoulder reading "TRAO".

Shirt: Red, green, and blue plaid button up shirt with long sleeves and French cuffs. Buttons in center and on cuffs are pearlescent black. Brown ribbon ties around waist on inside. White tag inside of proper left panel near bottom with text reading " ISABELLE / HUPPERT" and "Angels / & BERMANS". Collar extends outward on proper right side and attaches over front to proper left side with snap buttons and hook and eye clasps. Side panels and back of shirt have knife pleats.

Skirt: Blue chambray skirt with layered bottom edge. Sides of skirt near waistband are knife pleated. Back of skirt has snap buttons and eye and hook clasps. Chambray loops inside of waistband on each side.

Slip: White half-slip with ruffled bottom edge. Slit in back of skirt near waist with string tie waistband that ties in back. Inside of waistband is pink stitching on center front.

Condition

Lab Coat: Coat has faded in color. Small light brown stains under each pocket. Light yellow stain on back of proper left sleeve and on bottom edge of proper left.

Shirt: No signs of damage.

Skirt: Fabric is slightly worn throughout.

Slip: Light yellow staining around bottom edge of slip. Small brown spot in center panel on front. Small hole and snag in fabric in center of panel on front near top center. Black stains on ruffle bottom on proper left side.
